Saugerties High School Students Selected to Participate in All-Area State Vocal Music Ensembles – Daily Freeman

Seven students from Saugerties High School have been selected to participate in the 2022 Area All-State Vocal Music Ensembles.

Students will participate in rehearsals and a final concert with other students from Area 9, which consists of students from Greene County to Rockland County. The concert will take place on Saturday, November 12 at Tri-Valley High School in Grahamsville. Entrants were chosen based on their scores from the New York State School Music Association.

Saugerties students are Catelyn Brennan, Ahmya Carrube, Grace Hopf, Gillian Lopez, Sarah Mangione, Katie Nowitzskil and Alexis Schulte. Two of the aforementioned students, Nowitzskil and Mangione, both juniors, also participated in the association’s Spring Festival
and received perfect marks for both their solos and sight-readings. This experience begins with a music teacher, his student, years of training in sight singing, and an accompanist spending countless hours preparing a Level VI solo, which must be selected from a specified repertoire list.

Nowitzski was selected to participate in the association’s All-State Winter Conference as a Soprano II. Mangione was selected as backup soprano l. The conference performance brings together the most talented and top-rated high school students in the state to perform with world-class clinicians. The show will take place at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester on Sunday, December 4.

Rebecca MacDougall, music teacher at Saugerties High School, said in a press release, “To be recognized as an All-State Participant or Alternate is a great honor, as only the best student-musicians are selected.
These students will be excellent representatives of themselves, our music department, and the district, and we look forward to hearing the final performance.
