Open auditions scheduled for summer shows | A&E

The Prizery is holding open auditions for its revived and invigorated Summerstock Theater Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 at the Chastain Theater at the Prizery.

Actors and dancers ages 14 and older can audition for roles at the Summerstock Theater Festival, as well as later recruited actors at the Southeast Theater Conference, which runs March 9-13 in Memphis, Tennessee. Youth summer camp shows are also available by registration for young actors, and registrations for these camps are available at price.org/education.

The shows “Footloose”, “A Chorus Line” and “The Mountaintop” will run in rotation starting the weekend of July 7 for five weeks.

To encourage local participation, rehearsals will take place later in the day from noon to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. This will allow students and professionals to participate. Rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, May 31, following a BBQ and company get-together party on May 30.

For the audition, actors are asked to have:

1 minute or 16 bars of a rhythmic contemporary song (bring sheet music if available).

1 minute stand-up comedy.

A portrait or recent photo (if available).

General Manager Claude Giroux said he’s excited for local talent to join the company for the summer.

“All parts are open to the right person and none of the roles have been pre-cast,” Giroux said.

In addition to acting, Giroux says he’s contacted him about several technical opportunities in lighting, sound, set construction, costumes and stage management.

“It’s a great way for those who want to pursue theater studies or want to gain more experience, to learn and work alongside professionals,” he said.
