More blogs we like

Newsrack Blog
Takoman Thomas Nephew writes insightfully about domestic and international affairs. We love him 'cause he's another one of our super-smart neighbors and because of the way he wears his politics on his sidebar.

Silver Spring, Singular
To be honest, readers, we hesitated to link up to this fun capital-S-S (as in Silver Spring) blog because we were suspicious of its anonymous author, "Sligo." Judging from his or her content, it is obvious that he or she is very in-the-know when it comes to SS happenings, development, history, etc.. So, frankly, we wondered if this was a blog for some commercial interest in disguise. Not that we're against advertising, dear readers, quite the contrary– that's our bread and butter. We just wanted to hang back for a bit and make sure SSS wasn't harboring any hidden agendas.

No offense, Triple S! You won us over with your on-the-mark commentary and that great Lewis Black quote.

The Silver Bee
Blogger and realtor Debbie Cook intermingles Silver Spring culture with interesting updates on the local housing market. I've noticed Debbie promptly replies to reader comments, so this is a great resource for anyone thinking about buying or selling in our area.

•  Silver Spring Daily Photo: Living in George's Backyard
Utterly recognizable images, at once ordinary and freshly artistic. George, we don't know you but we like your style!

•  Just Up the Pike
A very healthy blog-alogue on Silver Spring development and politics, moderated skillfully by an 18 year old local, which is surprising– not because an 18 year old can be so savvy and circumspect, but because he'd be so interested in these somewhat dry topics.

•  The Silver Spring Penguin
Authored by SS transplant and freelance reporter Jennifer Deseo (who often has a byline in the Voice), it's fresh commentary on local events, politics, development. (It seems like you can't blog about SS unless you want to talk about the "Big D.") We know Jennifer's a good writer, and this blog has loads of potential though as yet it doesn't seem to be drawing any comment-banter.

•  Takoma Gardener
Let Voice columnist Susan Harris (the Gardening Coach) inspire your own green thumb. Lots of pictures and updated several times a week.

•  Wild Takoma
True: Susan Harris is at the helm of this blog, too, but unlike takomagardener, this one is supported by several entities working together to get TP recognized as a Wildlife Habitat Community. Since Susan mentioned the blog in her June column, we thought we link to it here.

The Voice staff will review and link to new blogs we think you'd like. You can use this feedback link to send us notes on your favorite blogs, and we'll check them out. Don't forget to include the complete URL, and please let us know if the author is a Takoma Park or Silver Spring local.
